ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation has been recognized by Asian CSR Awards, the region’s foremost corporate social responsibility program, for the network’s Educational Television (ETV) project.

ABS-CBN’s ETV was one of the excellence awardees under the support and improvement of education category. Another Philippine company, Johnson & Johnson Philippines, was also named as an awardee under the same category.

Microsoft Philippines’ employee wellness program was named the winner under the category of best workplace practices. Philam Foundation’s The GoodWell Fund, meanwhile, was one of the excellence awardees under the poverty alleviation category.

These four Philippine companies joined other firms from India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Sri Lanka that were recognized for their outstanding CSR projects. The awarding ceremony was held in Singapore Saturday.

At least 100 entries representing 120 companies from 15 countries competed under five categories: best workplace practices, concern for health, environmental excellence, poverty alleviation and support and improvement of education.

Asian CSR Awards program honors Asian companies for outstanding, innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programs.

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. won 14 trophies in the fourth USTv Students’ Choice Awards, a pioneering endeavor of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) to recognize artistic excellence and to promote Christian values in television programming.

ABS-CBN reaps 14 plums in USTv Students’ Choice Awards“TV Patrol World” won as student’s choice of local news program while TVP World hosts Julius Babao and Karen Davila were chosen as the students’ choice of male and female news and public affairs hosts, respectively.

Daily talk show “Boy and Kris” was picked as best variety talk program, “Pinoy Big Brother Season 2″ won as students’ choice of reality show; “Maalaala Mo Kaya” won students’ choice of drama program and “That’s My Doc” as students’ choice of sitcom.

ABS-CBN entertainment show “The Buzz” was chosen as the Most Popular Entertainment News Program while “ASAP ‘07″ won as Most Popular Variety Show.

Two shows on Studio 23 – “Sineskwela” and “Y Speak” won awards for students’ choice of education program and public affairs talk show program, respectively. Studio 23 was also chosen as the country’s most responsible youth-oriented TV station.

Koreanovela “Princess Hours” won as students’ choice of foreign soap opera while “Salamat Dok” was adjudged students’ choice of public service program.

GMA Network won eight trophies for the programs “I-Witness”, “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho”, “Wish Ko Lang”, “Marimar”, “Bubble Gang” and “Slam Dunk.” Marimar lead actress Marian Rivera was picked as most popular actress in a drama/miniseries while her leading man, Dingdong Dantes, was chosen as most popular actor in the same category.

The annual awards is organized by the Office of the Secretary General in cooperation with the Office for Student Affairs, Central Student Council, the Student Organizations Coordinating Council, the Office of Public Affairs, the Social Research Center, the Institute of Religion, Educational Technology Center and other related offices.
