MANILA, Philippines – Former world No. 1 Francisco “Django” Bustamante topped the 3rd Annual NYC Championship at the Skyline Billiards in Brooklyn, New York.
In a report posted at azbilliards.com on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), Bustamante scored a 9-4 win over Manny Chau in the finals to pocket the $3,053 (P137,385) top prize.
Bustamante dominated the entire match and never allowed Chau to mount a comeback to secure the win.
Chau defeated Mika Immonen to earn the first finals berth. Immonen then fell to the loser’s bracket and faced a waiting Bustamante.
The Filipino cue artist posted a 7-1 win over Immonen to arrange a title showdown with Chau, who earned $1,500 for his runner-up finish. Immonen settled for $1,150.
Other big-name players who joined the tournament were Johnny Archer, Mike Davis, Ignacio Chavez, Shaun Wilkie, Eddie Abraham, Matt Krah, Mike Dechaine and Alan Rolon.
