Filipino IT executive Joselito “Jojo” Añonuevo is the new senior director of business development of Internet giant Yahoo!, overseeing the firm’s activities in Southeast Asia.
Añonuevo, who was previously the president of online gaming company Digital Media Exchange (dme), is the highest ranked Filipino in the company in the region.
Prior to dme, Añonuevo was also one of the first to work for Oracle Philippines, becoming its marketing and sales director.
In an official statement, Añonuevo said he hopes to provide more to Yahoo!’s presence in Southeast Asia.
“Having the Philippines as part of my remit is also a great opportunity to address the benefits of the Internet for my fellow Pinoys. Yahoo! has adopted a Filipino-centric business approach in my native country and I will look to help Yahoo! expand on that vision,” Añonuevo said.
Yahoo! Southeast Asia said Añonuevo’s presence in the company would help lead it to regional partners such as content providers, advertisers, publishers and resellers in the region.
The company has been aggressively marketing its services in the Philippines, as well as in other Southeast Asian countries, targeting about 500 million potential users. Yahoo! is also the second most visited website in the Philippines after Friendster.com, according to statistics from Alexa.com.
It has already launched several mobile phone-based services, particularly Yahoo! Go, to draw people into using their phones for Internet services.
